Hip-hop Duo Snotty Nose Rez Kids Share New Album With Latest Single “Red Sky At Night”
With their new album Life After officially out over the weekend, Indigenous hip-hop Snotty Nose Rez Kids have shared the final single “Red Sky At Night”. An ode to the spirits that have come before and how older generations look over the people of today, the fast-firing and hyperactive single revolves around the mantra “old spirits don’t ever die”.
Full of life and energy, “Red Sky At Night” is one piece of the puzzle that is Life After, an album created out of the chaos of COVID, tied to issues around mental health and depression. After putting an entirely different album on hold, Snotty Nose Rez Kids refocused on the current world.
“In 2020, we had plans for a whole other concept but COVID stalled our career and made us examine a lot of the things about ourselves that we were too busy to notice”, the duo share. “We ended up looking deep, using forced isolation to begin to address issues around mental health and depression. Those issues were amplified when we started losing friends and community during the pandemic. When it was hard to see a light at the end of the tunnel, we started thinking a lot about what life would be like after lockdown, once live music could return and we’d be doing shows again. Once we’d be able to get that much needed energy and strength from the fans again. We called this album Life After which, for anyone, could mean a lot of things. For us, it means Life After going through a tough 18 months and emerging stronger than ever“.
