Icelandic Singer-Songwriter Axel Flovent Shares New Single “You” Featuring Tusks From Upcoming Collaborative Project
Rising Icelandic singer-songwriter Axel Flóvent is set to release a new collaborative project Coexist with artists from around the world, including Hayden Calnin (Australia), Plàsi (Sweden), Ciaran Lavery (Ireland) and Tusks (England). Produced by six times Grammy winner Damian Taylor (Björk, Arcade Fire, The Killers, The Temper Trap), the upcoming EP is a breathtaking, delicate balance of talents from artists celebrated for crafting their unique sound across an array of genres.
“With the ‘Coexist’ project, I wanted to create a small collective with musician friends of mine I’ve gotten to know these past years”, Axel shares about the release. “It’s been fascinating and a pleasure, to say the least, to visit the working process of these four artists. All the songs came from different cores, and my main focus with the project was to find a way to meet each other as artists, write these songs together, and find a sonic middle-ground. It took a few tries to get there, but I couldn’t be happier with the result. For the visual part of this project, my focus has been the paintings for the artwork. Each one is painted with the mood and tone of the song in mind.”
From the release is the latest single “You”, featuring UK indietronica singer-songwriter Tusks (aka Emily Underhill).
“‘You’ is about losing the feeling for someone you were once in love with, as they slowly turn back into a stranger in your eyes. When Emily came up with the idea, it was an instant connection and a smooth creation from the get-go. It felt like the clarity I needed at the time, and we’re both so happy with where it landed”, Axel continues.
About the song, Tusks adds: “I’d written the main hook of this song years ago & when Axel called me up and suggested we collaborate, I thought it would be perfect for us to work on together. I think we both complement each other’s songwriting styles, so the whole process just happened quickly and organically. I loved creating it with him”.
Incorporating the world of dream-pop with lush, indie folktronica, “You” is an expressive and heartfelt release. Listen to the single below:
