Indie Singer-Songwriter Cosmic Crooner Revives The ’70s Psych Era For New Single “Reflexopolis”
Now onto his fourth release, European artist Cosmic Crooner has shared his “most reflective and cheerful” piece to date with “Reflexopolis”. Borrowing the styles and decorum of ’70s psychedelia and dreamy ’60s pop, “Reflexopolis” is an airy, yet dense offering that leaves plenty of room for Crooner’s brooding vocals to swim through.
As for the density, Crooner became “obsessed” with instrumental dubbing throughout the recording process – layering arrangements with multiple forms of instrumentation. Inspired by the likes of Lou Reed, Serge Gainsbourg, Weyes Blood, David Bowie and The Beach Boys, Cosmic Crooner’s sound is both approachable and an ear-full.
Shot entirely on 16mm film, the accompanying music video blends nostalgia and humorous sincerity. He says: “For this video, I wanted to use more tricks and more colours. We approached the video as a painting and solely used primary colours, feeling very inspired by Kubrick’s ‘Barry Lyndon’ and Godard’s ‘Weekend’. The video was largely shot in the surroundings of Paris.”
