Sister Ray Shares Captivating New Single “Visions” From Upcoming Debut Album ‘Communion’
Sister Ray, the project of Edmonton-born songwriter Ella Coyes, shared their new single “Visions,” an emotional track highlighting Coyes’ lyrical talent. Alongside sharing the single, they’ve also announced details of the debut album, Communion, which is set for release on May 13 via Royal Mountain Records.
“Visions” is a poignant introduction to the record. Driven by guitar melody and vivid lyrics painting the story, it’s a powerful track. Alongside the music video that echoes the angst and solitude of the song, viewers slowly travel through colour washed scenes, brightening at every turn as the reality of the context comes into focus. Effectively delivering first-person reflections and experiences into a universally relatable medium, the result is a folk rooted, indie-rock track that draws listeners in and holds their attention through to the last chord.
About the song, Coyes shares: “There’s this feeling when I’m dreaming that suddenly my body weighs a million pounds, and I can’t move or speak, it’s like I’m melting into mercury. It’s that moment when I finally see the door, and the handle comes into view that suddenly I am unable to move another inch. The door opens like that scene in The Simpsons where Bart goes to visit Mad Magazine in New York and the Twin Towers are still standing. But instead of a bunch of wacky cartoons, it’s just kind of sad, like what the receptionist told Bart would be inside. So, I guess what ‘Visions’ is about is feeling pissed and betrayed by something that was supposed to be beautiful and good.”
‘Visions’ is available everywhere now, and expect full North American tour dates to be announced soon for Sister Ray.
