Scottish Punk Trio Cold Years Share New Single “32”; Announce New Album
Sharing new single “32” alongside news of an upcoming sophomore album, Scottish punk trio Cold Years are back, following the 2020 release of their debut album Paradise.
“32” is the opening track, introducing listeners to what they can expect of the upcoming album. A theatrical, soaring punk rock track, frontman Ross Gordon says “this is our ‘fuck this, let’s just get out of here’ track and the track that best channels the message of the album.”
The grittiness of the lead vocals pair against clean backing harmonies before the song jumps into crashing drums and spirited guitar. Lyrics filled with classic punk rock themes of leaving your hometown, overcoming challenges and feeling trapped, paired with building instruments create an anthem with a hopeful intensity.
If you’re a fan of ‘Welcome to the Balck Parade’ or ‘American Idiot,’ ‘32’ is likely to bring you the same mix of opposing feelings – despairing but a bit hopeful; pessimistic but with some optimism. Gordon shares that at its core, “it’s about overcoming hardship and growing as a person — facing all of your fears and insecurities — and realising that you’re never alone in that. It’s over-the-top; it’s punk rock on steroids and we can’t wait to play it live.” The music video, directed by Nick Scholey, captures the spirit of the song, following a couple in love running away to chase freedom and life outside of their current everyday experience.
The new album, Goodbye To Misery is set for release on April 22nd, with Gordon explaining that “this record is us saying you can break away from those things that are bringing you down. It’s about standing up for yourself and not letting anybody tell you what you should or shouldn’t be doing. It’s a defiant statement.”
