Montreal Singer-Songwriter Jason Bajada Unveils New Single “Snake” From Upcoming Album ‘Crushed Grapes’
Montreal-based singer-songwriter Jason Bajada shared a new single, “Snake”, lifted from his upcoming album, Crushed Grapes. Combining strings with his unique voice and folk style, ‘Snake’ is a stunning, haunting track that at first could pass for a lullaby only for its dark story to come to light and transform the entire feel of the song.
Underneath the lull of the strings – cello, violin, guitar, viola – is a dark story about toxic love. A tragic love story, it highlights the highs and lows within the relationship, one that can be both exhilarating and lethal. The accompanying music video, shot on film, echoes the lyrics, capturing the way two lonely people collide, coexist and ultimately collapse. While the lyrics tell the sad story of a doomed relationship, the video giving weight to the sadness in its depiction, Bajada’s voice is all the while soothing, both song and video ending on what could be called a hopeful note.
The heavy subject matter is in stark contrast with the way it’s conveyed in the video, adding to the allure. Akin to a short film, subtle hues and scenes of everyday life are contrasted by scenes of laundry in the wind, smoke floating in the air, cigarette butts, crushed grapes, a garden, a chainsaw, a sun filled room – all the elements coming together to tell the story Bajada crafts throughout the song.
The upcoming record from which “Snake” is lifted was written over a two-year period in New York, Montreal, the Magdalen Islands and LA. Crushed Grapes is set for release on September 23rd, 2022.
