Irish Hip-hop Artist IIIA Delivers Heartfelt Rap Ballad “For Caravaggio”

Irish hip-hop artist/actor IIIA has shared his new single “For Caravaggio”.

Following a difficult time brought on by lockdowns, and the death of a close friend over Christmas in 2020, “For Caravaggio” became a medium for artistic expression.

“When I was a kid, I used to just obsessively read about Italian painters and artists at the time, most of them were also scientist and when I read about them”, IIIA shares about the name. “I was determined to do that but one always stood out to me. Caravaggio”. The intensity and beauty of Caravaggio’s work is what IIIA tried to capture in this song“.

With a stripped down piano melody escorting his raw and vulnerable lyricism, “For Caravaggio” is no short of expressive and invigorating. IIIA manages to pull the listener in with his emotional wordplay and diary-like honesty as he balances gratitude and guilt. About the song, he shares: “This song came from a place of contradiction. December 2021, I was excelling in college, just won a music competition and had my first professional theatre contract. Yet I felt so incredibly hollow. This song was the first step in healing“.
