Chester Indie Pop Trio Peaness Drop Colourful New Video For “IRL” Off Upcoming Debut Album
Chester female indie-pop trio Peaness recently shared a new single, a new music video ahead of the upcoming May release of their debut album. ‘Irl’ is the latest track to be taken from the band’s forthcoming World Full Of Worry, which is set for release on May 6th.
The album’s lead single “What’s The Use?” was released in October 2021, followed by the second single “How I’m Feeling,” ahead of the release of “irl.” This latest release is a fun, infectious track featuring catchy guitar riffs, punctuating drums and clear, infectious harmonies throughout.
Commenting on the track, the band said: “For those born pre 1990, irl is an online chat acronym for ‘in real life’—’irl’ is about your online persona not aligning with what’s actually happening in your day-to-day life. It describes that craving for digital validation and the support of an echo chamber you’ve created for yourself, because that’s easier than talking to a professional about the state of your mental health, right? NOTE: There’s no shame in seeking professional help. All three of us do.”
The accompanying video is just as entertaining as the track itself, featuring the trio as various different personas auditioning for themselves, emphasizing the track’s message. Revealing themselves to their judge counterparts in the end, there’s a playful humour of breaking down your online persona to reveal the underlying person that shines through.
Peaness are Jessica Branney – bass and vocals – Rachel Williams – drums – and Carleia Balbenta – guitar and vocals. They’ve spent the last six years quietly building a fanatic underground following with their sugar-sweet melancholy indie pop. Their music features hook-saturated, fuzzy, harmony-driven indie-pop songs about love, friendship, and mid-twenties frustrations. The trio have been playing together since summer 2015, and their fun, friendship-fuelled live performances have been winning the hearts and minds of people up and down the country ever since, continuing to tour with a slew of upcoming UK dates.
