TikTok Star Scene Queen Drops Dark-Comedy Music Video For “Pink Rover”
Scene Queen has taken TikTok by storm, with her debut track “Are You Tired” finding viral support. Single “Pink Rover” features the same genre-blending of her previous releases, adding in social commentary and continuing to hone in on her unique sound.
As Scene Queen, Hannah Collins has just released her EP Bimbocore via Hopeless Records in late April. “Pink Rover” is lifted from the EP and was released alongside an accompanying music video. The track alternates between heavy, hard-hitting guitar in the chorus and a lilting, lighter accompaniment throughout the verses. Collins brings the track to life through her vocals, as the seemingly playful track scrutinizes harassment and unwanted advances. Punchy lyrics, nursery rhyme melodies and at times intense instrumentation work together almost effortlessly, each element interplaying with the other throughout the song.
The “Pink Rover” music video highlights the more serious subject matter of the track even more. As various scenes from sorority girls and fraternity guys depict harassment, hazing and general debauchery, the video visually emphasizes the grittier intention of the song, all while balancing more playful elements – like ritual-esque ceremonies and pink velour capes. As the girls take revenge on the boys that wrong them, the playfulness you hear in the track blends with the more eerie, graphic scenes of the video to immerse viewers in a new way.
