INTRODUCING: Irish Indie Folk Trio Kingfisher Make Stellar Debut With Highlight Single “Flowers-Fire”
Hailing from Limerick, Ireland, indie-folk trio Kingfisher released their debut single just last month. “flowers-fire” is described by the band as a rose-tinted recollection of one’s first great love.
Heartfelt and honest, “flowers-fire” is a strong step onto the music scene from the group. Having met in college in 2017, Eogan “McGoo” McGrath, Edmond Keogh and Eoin Fitzgibbons deliver a single that highlights an ability to pair lyrics and instrumentals in a way that emphasizes the emotion and human experience. Starting soft, the song crescendos into a crashing, emotional delivery backed by folk-style instrumental and ending as it began, with the vocals at the forefront. Speaking to a faint memory at first, the lyrics ultimately become a confessional of the most intimate feelings of love as experienced by Keogh.
When asked about the song, Fitzgibbons remarks, “We’ve been slamming our heads off the wall trying to carve out a sound, I know it’s early days yet, but “flowers-fire” definitely feels like something we can say represented a piece of us in our early twenties“. Elaborating on their sound, McGrath shares “there’s a storied history to spoken word in Ireland, never mind the trad music. There’s something of that authentic Celtic vibe that I think people are still hungry for. In some way that’s what we’re trying to get at, while keeping it fresh at the same time.”
Reminiscent of artists like Dermot Kennedy, The Decemberists and Ben Howard – though bringing their own styling and perspective to the table – Kingfisher will be one to watch among indie-folk fans.
