Dublin Artist Sorcha Richardson Shares New Video “Archie”

The latest release from Dublin artist Sorcha Richardson, “Archie” is a coming-of-age tale based upon friendship rather than love, and the big, ambitious dreams of where the teenage love of music may one day take you.

The single was released alongside a music video, showcasing the song’s theme, as the two characters chart off an adventure, with inevitable change following close behind them. By the end of the track, memories of Archie flash across the screen, as Richardson sings of the ache for friendship and connection: “I’ve been making posters / tryna start a band / waiting on the weekend / there’s nothing for me here / don’t you be a stranger / don’t you disappear.”

What starts as dusky, desert folk suddenly takes on a grander, majestic sound. As Richardson tells the story of meeting Archie and the type of instant connection that’s unique to being young and feeling infinite, the track expands to match the message of teenage possibility and passion. Blown out guitar, distorted and fading out, brings the height of the song’s emotion to light just before the close.

About “Archie” Richardson says that it’s “a song about teenage hopes and dreams and about losing touch with the people who you once shared them with. I wrote the earliest version of it at a writing camp in the Spring of 2021 with some of my favourite Irish songwriters. It was the one song from the camp that I kept coming back to but I would have left it off the album if not for Alex Casnoff’s influence. He was a real guiding light with this one.”

The choice to include it on the album has paid off for Richardson on the road, bringing her back to her own younger days. “As lame as it sounds, It makes me feel like I’m living out my teenage dreams when we play it. I think that’s one of the greatest feelings you can have.”
