Texan Underground Indie Rock Collective The Wheel Workers Share Punk Rock Tune “Suck It Up”
Veteran indie rock collective The Wheel Workers have been playing music as different combinations for the past two decades. While their sound and shape have changed over the years, their DIY and independent spirit has remained the foundation of their sound. On their new single “Suck It Up”, the Texas group lean into the punk rock scene with gritty guitars, warped synthesizers, and retro proto-punk/surf-punk influences for a chaotic and melodic effort.
“The song was written while I was extremely frustrated about not having played a show in well over a year during the pandemic,” said band frontman Steven Higginbotham. “It’s sort of an ode to the indie/punk dive bar show experience—the sweaty, DIY, grungy, electric vitality that only comes from seeing a good show in a small venue with bands who play every note like it might be their last. So ‘suck it up’ here means to enjoy the moment, because you never know when it will all end.”
