Singer-Songwriter Richard Walters Teams Up With Neo-Classical Duo Pêtr Aleksänder For Cinematic Single “Golden Year”
Singer-songwriter Richard Walters has partnered with alternative modern classical duo Pêtr Aleksänder, for new stand alone single “Golden Year”. For Eliot James and Tom Hobden (aka Pêtr Aleksänder), the new single is the first time since 2020 that they’ve joined forces with a vocalist to bring their instrumental work to new horizons.
Eliot describes how the relationship came together: “Collaborating on ‘Golden Year’ was a dream. We’ve been fans on Richard’s for a while (we actually shared a stage a few years back) and having got to know him recently it made perfect sense when we starting talking about working on some music together. He’s got an incredibly evocative vocal style and a very laid back and easy going approach to writing which meant the track came to life very organically and it feels like a happy & natural combination of our collective musical output.”
Similarly, Richard recalls the day the wrote the song and how it came together in the studio, “I remember walking along the canal to the studio to work with Eliot & Tom and it was one of those rare, perfect London mornings; golden, full of potential. It’s a song about grabbing that fleeting optimism and running with it, before the walls go back up or the ideas get stuck in the quicksand, pulling out the hope and making it grow. I’ve been a huge admirer of Pêtr for some time, so this collaboration was really special.”
Lined with string arrangements and orchestral flourishes, “Golden Year” is an introspective anthem filled with hope and optimism. Borrowing influences from Sigur Rós, Bon Iver, and Half Moon Run, the new single is a mesmerizing listen.
