Art Rock Quartet Mamalarky Share Colourful New Video For “Mythical Bonds”
Having just announced their home-recorded sophomore album Pocket Fantasy, out September 30th, Atlanta-based art rock-pop group Mamalarky have shared the colourful DIY music video for their splashy hit single “Mythical Bonds”.
Comprised of guitarist-vocalist Livvy Bennett, keyboardist Michael Hunter, drummer Dylan Hill, and bassist Noor Khan, Mamalarky piled into a giant old house to record their new album from scratch.
From their new neighbourhood, the inspiration came for “Mythical Bonds”, as they found themselves surrounded by tall trees and a cacophony of birds. One particularly blissful day of swimming and sunshine lead to the friendship ode “Mythical Bonds”, mirroring its jolted guitar riffs to the refraction of the water.
Alongside the single comes the video directed by Ambar Navarro, capturing their colourful living space and chemistry.
“I really needed to write something to accurately show Noor how much her friendship means to me, and our journey as musicians and friends,” Bennett reflects on the song.
“We need more songs about friendship. In peak album-making mode we were churning out songs, at times to the point of delirium. So we decided to shake ourselves loose and make this serotonin rock song about how much we love each other–to push past all those hunched-over studio hours and create this little summer memento. At the time we were having a lot of pond, lake and pool-side hangs, laughter under the beating heat. At the end of those days all we wanted to do was come home and synthesize those feelings in our studio.”
