Calgary Pop Artist Jennie Harluk Returns With New Single “She’s Got You”
Calgary indie pop artist Jennie Harluk has had a busy summer, with an appearance at the Calgary Stampede Festival and RBC’s First Up music program. Continuing her momentum, the emerging artist has shared her new single and video for “She’s Got You”.
Heading into heartbreak territory for the new release, “She’s Got You” plays with the classic sad-girl pop sensibilities, lead by her bright vocals.
“She’s Got You” is the ‘edgy’ side of my ‘girl next door’ thing I’ve got going on”, she shares. “This song is so fun in its pettiness and sass, but it’s also a heartache song. I’m a fairly open person with my emotions. But sometimes I wish I wasn’t so quick to those emotions. The girl in this song was written as the kind of person I wish I could be sometimes. I wish I could cover up heartbreak with nonchalant comments or come across unbothered when hurt. But that’s just not me. So this song is my way to vicariously live through a melody. It’s sarcastic, petty, lonely, angry, and a heart jerker all at once. I think it embodies some of the stages of grief in a breakup and the different coping mechanisms of dealing“.
Keeping in line with her bedroom pop aesthetic, the accompanying visual combines home recordings of a past relationship mixed with the freedom of summer. The glossy, yet grainy DIY feel of the video is a wonderful match for the youthful energy of the track.
