UK Singer-Songwriter Luka Powell Returns With New Vibrant New Single “Colourblind”
London-based singer-songwriter Luka Powell has shared her new single “Colourblind”. A vibrant and upbeat offering, she provides a candid and somewhat tongue-in-cheek glance into diving headfirst into a relationship despite the red flags.
Expanding on the track’s meaning and its composition, Luka shares:
“‘Colourblind’ was a remote collaboration over lockdown. I first wrote the track in December of 2020, while quarantining in my childhood bedroom in Abu Dhabi. At the time, it was required by UAE law to wear a tracking device on your wrist to make sure you were obiding the quarantine requirements. I hadn’t seen my parents for a year and was lucky enough to make it home for christmas, but that meant 14 days of quarantining in my bedroom.
This made it kind of hard to play the guitar as I had this bulky watch on my wrist, but I also had literally nothing else to do and found it super motivating and wrote a bunch of new songs for the first time in a few years.
Lyrically, it was tongue-in-cheek but also felt real to me. I was kind of taking a punch at the trope of women in movies / media where they are pining by the phone waiting for a call / text and the trepidation that comes with that”.
Sharing sonic similarities to the likes of St. Vincent, HAIM, and Maggie Rogers, “Colourblind” is a wonderful follow-up to her 2021 single “Hindsight“.
