Matt Moody Shares New SoCal Hit “The Passerby”
After releasing his debut album Still A Kid In A Painted Sky earlier this summer, indie singer-songwriter Matt Moody is holding onto the momentum with his new single “The Passerby”. Influenced by the vintage tones of SoCal indie rock and the West Coast music scene, “The Passerby” showcases the San Fernando Valley-based artist’s appreciation for the modern-retro.
Recorded in a single day with collaborators Raul Hernandez and Nick Gendian, “The Passerby” was put together using analogue gear in their one-room studio underneath a hispanic – catholic church in the valley, with the three cut drums directly to 1/4” tape and layered instruments using an old Russian made board and a 50’s ribbon microphone that Nick thrifted at Goodwill.
Leaning into the stoner-rock side of things, the lyrics were improvised during a smoking sesh, and give the song its dreamy, melting aesthetic.
