Toronto Neo-Folk Artist Dwi Riana Finds A Personal Haven On “Lakeshore Blvd”
Toronto-based indie neo-folk singer-songwriter Dwi Riana has released their new single “Lakeshore Blvd”. Written about the west end lake front where Dwi spends time enjoying the stillness from within the busy city, the new single captures the serenity of the neighbourhood.
“’Heaven is the place where you think of nowhere else.’ I read that line in the book “The Art of Stillness” by Pico Iyer and I think of it often”, Dwi shares. “Whether it be a good day or bad, I’ve found my heaven here on Lakeshore Boulevard. This neighbourhood had stopped my momentum, I’ve moved around a lot but since I moved here, I’ve only moved around within the same area. On bad days I guilt myself for it, I cast judgement on my peace and I play chicken with myself, swearing that I would move far away from here. Yet I never do, it’s a privilege to have found somewhere where I’m comfortable enough to find myself and I take it for granted. On good days, I thank Lakeshore for providing me the stillness to grow. The place, the memory, the state of mind, it’ll be with me forever. I’ll never leave Lakeshore Blvd“.
Featuring a mandolin, gifted to Dwi by a close friend, and traditional Indonesian instruments to tie in his family’s roots, the lush and delicateness of the instrumentation matches the beauty of the area. Their vocals and the effects layered overtop are a wonderful combination to round out the delicate neo-folk offering.
“Lakeshore Blvd.” is the first song from the upcoming five-song EP Jambu Tree. Listen below:
