Montreal Trio Afternoon Bike Ride Announce Sophomore Album With New Single “For The Breakdowns”

Montreal-based indie trio Afternoon Bike Ride have announced their upcoming sophomore album, sharing with the news the first single lifted from the record. “For The Breakdowns” gives listeners a first glimpse into glossover, set for a February 10th release.

About the track, Lia Kurihara shares: “This song speaks on my self-growth over the last four years which felt pretty pivotal in my life and also in a lot of my friend’s lives, we’ve all experienced tons of self-development and gone through many hard moments that helped us reach who we are today. At the end of the day, the lesson is to prioritize love– love for one’s self, family, community, and planet….”

Wistful and soft, the track is highly reflective; crooning vocals fit effortlessly on top of acoustic guitar, punctuated with harmonies and poignant pauses in just the right spots. Kurihara further elaborates, continuing by saying that “this song is meant to be a reminder that throughout the breakdowns, another version of yourself in a more stable time is there to spiritually comfort you, there to remind you that nothing is permanent and this chaos will end as much as any joy experienced will pass too. Life is imperfect, we’re imperfect and that’s something beautiful to keep in mind. We’re all constantly evolving and our emotional states are ephemeral.

Looking ahead to the upcoming album, listeners can expect to experience moments of both airy lightness and tension from the band’s new work. Main vocalist Kurihara began caretaking for her father amidst an Alzheimer’s diagnosis and many of the songs can feel this energy: the spontaneity and excitement that comes with being in your 20s right alongside serious health matters and pandemic lockdowns.
