UK DIY Alt Rock Artist Lucifers Beard Returns With Punk-Inspired Single “The Guy With A Black Eye”
From the depths of his homemade studio, UK alt-rock solo artist Chris Barnes has shared his new single “The Guy With A Black Eye” under his Lucifers Beard moniker. Teaming up with Ed Ripley (NOFX, Frank Turner, Goat Girl) for mastering, Barnes brings out a subtle gritty punk intensity on the song that encourages a who-cares attitude.
Inspired by an unnamed passerby in the street with a skateboard tucked under his arm and a black eye, “The Guy With A Black Eye” uses maxed-out guitar tones and Hives-esque riffs for a driving alt-rock hit.
“I don’t usually have a concept of a song before the music has been written”, Chris beings. “The music usually drives any narrative for me. So when I had this character in my head I just started aimlessly playing fast guitar chords and it all fell into place pretty quickly, I thought about trying to put a bridge in or other sections, but conceptually it just felt right to be a short aggressive and punchy song!
“I think the lyrics during the chorus focus on that desire that most people have occasionally”, Chris continues about the song. “To genuinely be able to hold that kind of confidence and a do or die attitude. And not from a sense of “something bad” has happened and I don’t care anymore. From a perspective of I genuinely don’t care, deal with it!”
