Fast-Rising Alt Rock Duo Cleopatrick Are Unstoppable On New EP ‘DOOM’; Share Latest Video For “Scaring Me”
Heavy alt-rock duo cleopatrick have released their anticipated EP, DOOM, with earlier single release “OK” having primed fans of the energetic, do-it-yourself band for what’s to come. With the 5 track collection out now, the band has shared “SCARING ME” as the focus track, alongside the accompanying music video.
The entire EP focuses on the relationship between human and computer, and “SCARING ME” is no exception. The lyrics speak to the sometimes dangerous connection between human and computer, with lyrics like ‘my sweet machine’ and ‘as the quantum foam betrays me.’ The music video is a screen inside of a screen, rolling through the streets as it displays conflicting, distorting images created by AI artist Bruno Lopez and from within reality, show by long-time collaborator Boy Wonder.
The track itself shows a softer side of the band. Heavily distorted guitars feature prominently, with vocals and steady drums filing out the track. Self-produced by cleopatrick, mixed by jonwayne and executively produced by a sentient IBM ® desktop computer from 2002, the entirety of DOOM was written and recorded as they toured nearly non-stop from September 2021 through to August 2022 in support of their debut full-length BUMMER. Produced and mixed while on tour in the back of their van, DOOM is a collection of songs that highlight the band’s musical versatility, sharp lyrical observations and eclectic musical tastes – and “SCARING ME” only serves to highlight their multifaceted strengths.
Guitarist/vocalist Luke Gruntz shares that as a whole “DOOM is a collection of songs about digital complacency, fleeting privacy, love letters written out in 1’s and 0’s, divine MacBooks, leaked files, lost humanity, corrupt hard drives, lizard billionaires, killer asteroids, the proverbial “cloud”, Maxwell’s equations, 1997’s IBM “DEEP BLUE ®” supercomputer, high energy particles, and the magic piece of glass that I keep in my right front pocket.” Obviously.
DOOM is out now, released via the band’s own Nowhere Special Recordings and distributed by Thirty Tigers. With a sold-out show at the Velvet Underground marking the EP’s release and seemingly no shortage of creative ideas or engaging antics, don’t expect cleopatrick to slow down anytime soon.
