Pop-Punk Act badxyou Share Future Emo Hit “BETTER” Featuring 8485
While pop-punk and emo have always found ways to dabble in electronic influences, the next generation of artists are leaning into the modern style with confidence. Neo-pop-punk trio badxyou, consisting of lead vocalist/songwriter Andy Gruhin, guitarist and video editor Ethan Heckard, and sound design and mixer Connor Gallihugh, have shared their new single “BETTER”, featuring fellow indie glitch-pop artist 8485.
The group’s third single, its a more vulnerable offering, as frontman Gruhin confronts his bipolar disorder alongside battling with a toxic relationship. Its heavy lyricism is mixed into a glitchy and dense electronic soundscape, inline with the creativity and lushness of Porter Robinson and Said the Sky. While the opening guitar riff nods to The Killers’ “Mr. Brightside”, the song quickly shifts into his own world, as the group and 8485 give their unique performances.
“Better” is the third single from badxyou, following up their widely celebrated single “Discord Nitro”. The band even made the “first music video on Discord”, creating a mesmerizing IRL internet experience that put on display the true story of what happened when one of the bandmates made their girlfriend a mod on their discord.
“BETTER” is one catchy piece of the band’s culture-evolving puzzle, and Badxyou are sure to continue to fuse together elements of video games, online culture, and brain-scratching electronic influences.
