Indie Rock Group partygirl Make Difficult Conversations A Little Bit Easier With New Single “need you”
Breaching difficult conversations with a delicate, artistic focus, indie rock outfit partygirl aim to be “a maximalist indie rock band which writes and performs songs that depict the experience of Survivorship (those who identify as Survivors of sexual assault and rape) as a radical political identity and as a space for radical political action”. Their debut self-titled EP, released back in October, dives into those topics head-on, led by multi-instrumentalist/frontwoman Pagona Kytzidis.
Their new highlight track “need you” is an especially poignant release, as Kytzidis looks to process her own sexual assault trauma. Gentle in composition, the new single speaks volumes with its narrative.
As Kytzidis says at partygirl shows: “I perform and write this music with a desperation to be a Self, to be My Self, in the totality of my experience, all the darkness, the intensity, the extremes, to be my biggest Self for all the times I was my smallest Self. This music is exercised as an avenue for the Possible.”
Reminiscent of Fiona Apple and Mitski, “need you” uses the power of piano and vocals to make the weight of the situation both more approachable and piercing.
