California Indie Rock Group Widows Gold Share New Single “Holy Rollers” From Upcoming Debut LP ‘Love Drops’
Costa Mesa, California-based four-piece Widows Gold are set to release their debut full-length Love Drops in January. The group, fronted by husband/wife duo Ben Sauer (guitar) and Madeline Star (vocals), have shared their new single “Holy Rollers”.
“”Holy Rollers” pulls you in from the jump with tension between dissonant feedback and eerie drums – only to intensify with percussive rhythm and biting tones that sink their teeth in with a hooky chorus. The track lyrically raises two middle fingers to the liars and cheaters of the world while embodying the spirit of rock & roll.”
Following a handful of previous singles, “Holy Rollers” is a dynamic and ’90s-influenced track that pulls from post-punk revival, grunge, and new wave. Rounded out by its melodic chorus, artists like Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Cortney Barnett, and Metric come to mind as the song rotates through angst, enthusiasm, and empowerment.
