London Singer-Songwriter Hohnen Ford Unveils Stunning Lullaby “Don’t Fall Asleep” From Debut EP ‘Infinity’
London-based singer-songwriter Hohnen Ford recently released a new co-write with Matt Maltese. The new single, “Don’t Fall Asleep,” is lifted from Ford’s debut EP, Infinity and follows the first two singles, “Infinity” and “Send Me A Sign.”
“Don’t Fall Asleep” is a perfect example of Ford’s lyrical and vocal talents. Seeing Ford reminiscing about first loves, the single solidifies her as a young jazz act to watch. Putting her vocals at the forefront from the get go, the single is honest and vulnerable, the piano accompanying the clean vocal delivery seemingly effortlessly.
Speaking more on the lyrical inspiration of “Don’t Fall Asleep” and how the song was conceived with Maltese, Ford shares that “my first ever co-write, this song unfolded from a seed I had milling in my head so quickly. [Maltese] and I essentially met for the first time, had a 2 hour therapy session, ate a soup and then channelled it into a song in under an hour.”
With a haunting quality, tinged with just the right amount of sadness to compliment the overall hopeful quality of the song, there’s a perfect balance that brings the underlying feelings to the forefront. Elaborating on the track’s inspiration, Ford says that: “we remember our first loves and heartbreaks so vividly. Love that could kill! My brother was experiencing his first heartache at the time, and seeing him brought up all those emotions like they were my own.”
Ford’s new single “Don’t Fall Asleep”, along with debut EP Infinity are both out now via Young Poet.
