Singer-Songwriter Andy Shauf Questions Existence On New Single “Wasted On You”; Unveils Upcoming Album ‘Norm’ & Tour Dates
Toronto-based singer-songwriter Andy Shauf has announced his new album Norm, set for release on February 10th via Arts & Crafts, along with an extensive tour schedule in the spring. Leading the news is his quirky and existential new single “Wasted On You”, and its accompanying visual.
Inspired by David Lynch’s film Mulholland Drive, Andy Shauf recreated the story (with the help of Nicholas Olson) to revolve around Norm, after writing the album’s title track. “The character of Norm is introduced in a really nice way,” Shauf shares. “But the closer you pay attention to the record, the more you’re going to realize that it’s sinister.”
A similar pattern occurs on the album’s lead single/opening track, “Wasted On You”. Narrated by Shauf’s iconic and gentle vocals, the dreamy pop tune begins with a simple question: “What happens when they die?” before religion, death, and existence continue to unravel as the song progresses. The accompanying video, directed by V Haddad and written by Shauf, is a playful depiction of God (played by Lauren Servideo) and Jesus (Frederic Winkler), once again presenting the duality in Shauf’s music.
