Vancouver Artist Kimmortal Shares Stunning New Single “I Can’t Trust You”

Vancouver’s Kimmortal, queer non-binary fillipinx rapper, singer and producer, recently released their new single “I Can’t Trust You”, alongside an accompanying video that exudes themes of self-love, empowerment and healing.

A reflective and soulful ballad, the tracks speaks to the difficulty of holding onto a family relationship due to feelings of nostalgia and obligation, even when mixed feelings and distrust are present. Kimmortal recognizes that although a bond to a blood relation may feel strong, an authentic relationship cannot flourish and be sustained without trust. The lyrics clearly speak to the situation, displaying a vulnerable honesty that brings listeners into the internal dilemma Kimmortal  is clearly facing. The focus stays on the vocals and lyrics throughout, with a steady, funk beat supporting Kimmortal’s crisp voice, harmonies coming in to further support at various points.

In the accompanying visuals, Kimmortal films themselves writing on the wall of a home, repeating “I can’t trust you”, as if it is a screaming letter, to finally sign it off with an insightful resolution, “and I, Kim, let go”. It addresses the difficult decision to move forward as they take their power back, with Kimmortal expressing on the single that they cannot ignore or “paint over” the hurt that has been inflicted throughout the relationship any longer.

“I Can’t Trust You” was produced by Vancouver’s Elisa Pangsaeng. Speaking of collaborating with Pangsaeng, Kimmortal says, “I wanted to work with Elisa Pangsaeng and showed her about 10 of my songs. “I Can’t Trust You” was a recording on my phone, and the last one I played for her, but I wasn’t originally going to share it. She really stayed true to my voice and message, and I love where we brought it”.

“I Can’t Trust You” follows this year’s previously released single “K I’m Mortal.”
