Enter Shikari Announce New Solar Powered Album & Tour Dates; Share Lead Single “(pls) set me on fire”
UK electronicore veterans Enter Shikari have announced their new album A Kiss For The Whole World is set to be released on April 21 via SO Recordings / Ambush Reality. Three years since their critically-acclaimed release Nothing Is True & Everything Is Possible, the upcoming collection will continue to push the band’s sound and recording process into new territory.
The band set up shop in an old farmhouse in the coastal town of Chichester in spring 2022, and used only solar power to track the album. Frontman Rou Reynolds shares, “Back to basics. This band – my best friends – bundled into an old farmhouse, miles away from anywhere. Off-grid, and ready to rediscover ourselves. This album is powered by the sun, the most powerful object in our solar system. And I think you can tell. It’s a collection of songs that represent an explosive reconnection with what Enter Shikari is. The beginning of our second act”.
Leaning into the theme of the burning sun, the band’s new lead single “(pls) set me on fire” is an explosive and melodic track that sets the tone for the record. Serving as a sort of kindle, “set me on fire” was the first song to come following two years of Reynolds halting his songwriting.
Reynolds comments on the single’s conception: “Honestly, I thought I was fucked. I’ve never felt so detached from my soul, my purpose, my fucking spirit. I didn’t write music for almost two years. The longest I’d gone before that was two weeks. I was broken. It’s almost as if my brain had asked: “What is the point in music if it cannot be shared? What is the point in writing music if it’s not to be experienced with others?” and then promptly switched itself off. ‘(pls) set me on fire’ grew out of that desperation. This song is a projectile vomit of positive energy. Every emotion trapped inside me for two years, finally set free.”
Unsurprisingly, the song features glitchy electronic textures and anthemic vocal melodies, while the hardcore group switch between clean and aggressive vocals for a triumphant return.
Enter Shikari have also announced a run of very special album release shows across Europe and the US today, as well as special 2023 UK residency shows to take place through the Spring. Reynolds explains their thinking: “It’s hard to do anything interesting with live shows today. We wanted to do something different. We’re going to become a local band to five major cities in the UK. It’s going to be interesting to see how the shows evolve every time we return.”
Exclusive access to tickets begins Jan 19th for members of the band’s fan club, or anyone pre-ordering the album here. General sale begins Jan 26th.
