Philly Indie Rock Group Grocer Share Edgy New Single “Downtown Side”
Philadelphia indie rock trio Grocer have shared their new single “Downtown Side”, their first single since their 2022 album Numbers Game. Incorporating the frantic, rhythmic instrumentation of ’80s post-punk with ’90s anti-pop, the new track is a chaotic and melodic offering that encapsulates a bottled up sense of frustration.
With all three members taking turns as lead vocalist, the acrobatic and cyclical musicality of the track is warm and exciting, as there’s an unpredictability to song. Nevertheless, Grocer find a welcoming middle-ground that keeps things catchy and poppy with the guitar lines and sing-along vocal melodies, influenced by the likes of Parquet Courts, The Pixies, and Speedy Ortiz.
