Norwegian Indie Pop Artist MIIA Returns For Her Next Chapter With “Oxide”
Fast-rising Norwegian indie pop artist MIIA made a strong first impression back in 2016 with her single “Dynasty”. The budding star released a few singles over the years to follow, but has returned with her first song in almost four years with “Oxide”. Hitting refresh on her sound and style, the new song is also the lead single from her upcoming debut EP.
Known for her compelling and vulnerable vocal style, “Oxide” is no different, building off a moody piano melody as her raw voices and lyricism draw in the listener. MIIA sees “Oxide” as the bridge between her past and present:
I wrote “Oxide” in the winter, up in the mountains of Norway; my favourite place on earth. Where I feel most at home. At that point, after a year of therapy and hibernation, I was at a very peaceful point in my healing process. I was finally able to write about something that had weighed on me for a long time. I love my father, more than I think he or anyone else will ever understand. But, relationships are complex. This song is the voice of my inner child. She used to have no voice at all. I had to write this song for her. Though I have said these words before, time and time again, the hurt never truly went away. So I had to write them down. My biggest hope (because there is hope!) is that hurt can, through honesty, become healing.“
Her dynamic vocals combine with a lush and full chamber-pop arrangement, making room for her voice to reach new heights. Passionate and heartfelt, “Oxide” is a beautiful release from the rising star.
