UK Post-Punk Act Junior Bill Share Mind-Bending Music Video For “Boys From Jungle” From Upcoming Debut Album
UK indie rock group Junior Bill are set to release their debut full-length Youth Club! later this year. The spirited post-punk inspired four-piece have shared their new single “Boys From Jungle” and its vintage-tinged psychedelic music video.
Politically charged, the new release looks toward the housing crisis in Wales specifically for refugees seeking asylum in the UK. “Boys From Jungle’s jolly sound is a smokescreen for the bleak realities expressed in the lyrics.” shares frontman Rob Nichols. “It’s a story about the depressing fates that often await those who’ve risked life and limb to make it to the UK. I wrote it years ago after reading a Wales Online article exposing the grim conditions of an overcrowded hostel for asylum seekers near where I live in Cardiff. The lyrics were intentionally written with bad grammar to evoke a hastily written report.”
Splashy guitars and hypnotic rhythms drive the song forward, as Nichols’ accented vocals border between low drones and melodic dance-punk. Capturing the ’80s & ’90s sound of their post-punk predecessors, the accompanying music video leaves behind modern video technology for a dizzying and layered video clip.
