Toronto Indie Rock Trio Wild Rivers Return With Heartbreaking New Single “Don’t”
After forging some well-deserved momentum in 2022 with their album Sidelines, Toronto-based indie folk rock trio Wild Rivers have returned with their first taste of new music with “Don’t”. Branching out into the world of indie pop, the new single is a contrasting tune about a relationship on the verge of ending.
“I’ve heard the adage my whole life: when you know, you know”, the band share. “People describe love at first sight as an irrevocable moment when you know you want to be with someone forever. I’m not sure it always shakes out like that. In my experience, as you get to know someone, you slowly come closer to knowing. It boils down to making an active decision to choose someone or not. If not, you try to make a really painful, adult decision to move on, and you try to trust that it’s the right decision even when it’s hard. This song is about making that call.”
In the same vein as Valley, The Band CAMINO, and joan, the melancholic indie pop tune balances warm vocals with emotive lyricism, and pushes the need for genre and labels to the side.
