Philadelphia Indie Rock Group Grocer Share DIY Music Video For New Single “Smooth Operator”
After making a splash with their first single of the year “Downtown Side” back in January, Philadelphia indie rock trio Grocer have returned with their latest offering “Smooth Operator”. Joined by its homemade music video, the new track is a nod to the Sade song of the same name while putting a noisy, fun twist on the topic of the “Western Male”.
Elaborating further the band share, “Smooth Operator, a nod to Sade’s song of the same title, further explores her lyrical concept of a “Western Male” by painting a not-so-smooth picture of the classic disgruntled American man and his daily…hardships. We had fun playing around with various “smooth” elements, like a fretless bass walking pattern, but naturally tried to turn them on their head to make them sound demented, heavy, and dark.
Disorienting vocal melodies and frantic instrumentation melt together for a melodic and surprisingly groovy track, that further establishes the emerging band’s colourful personality and musicality.
