Saskatoon’s Katie Tupper Shares Soulful New Single ”No Woman” Alongside Music Video
“Woman No” is the first single from Saskatoon-based neo-soul artist Katie Tupper’s upcoming sophomore EP, Where To Find Me. Endearing and reflective, the track is released alongside the music video that shows Tupper delivering a performance to an entirely uninterested audience (though it’s hard to imagine how her captivating vocals wouldn’t draw just about anyone in).
A soul driven ballad that has Tupper’s smokey vocals soaring over delicate finger-picked guitar and dreamy piano, she likens the track to a sort of a letter to her past self. “I wrote this song to my younger self,” explains Tupper. “I’m hoping it will defy time and space and tap into the brain of my teenage self. I want to give her advice to act on everything I was feeling rather than doing what looked right or seemed to be the correct choices.”
The official video for “Woman No”, directed by Ryley Konechny, finds Tupper singing the sultry ballad in a Saskatoon roadhouse bar surrounded by unenthusiastic bikers. The setting sets a juxtaposition between their tougher outward appearance and her more delicate look clear from the start, bringing a visual representation to the dilemma of the message at the heart of the song. A diamond in the rough, Tupper’s shimmering, emotional performance in the middle of the room is largely ignored by the patrons even as the weight of the song brings her to tears.
“Woman No” is Tupper’s second single released, following track “Honey,” since her well-received 2022 debut EP, Towards The End.
