Regina Indietronica Artist ka lok Shares Pulsating New Single “Heavy Villainy”
Regina-based indie artist ka lok has shared his pulsating new single “Heavy Villainy” and its choreographed accompanying music video. Inspired by the likes of James Blake and Moses Sumney, his dense production and airy vocals combine for a familiar sense of allure.
“This song is about my constant desire for approval from others, whether it’s from co-workers, friends, family, or significant other“, ka lok explains about the single. Continuing he shares, “I stayed in a relationship I was not happy in because I wanted the person I was with to feel loved and accepted, even though I now know that I wasn’t truly in love with them. There are more nuanced reasons too. I was afraid of being alone. I struggled with knowing if I was ready for love, or if I just wasn’t trying hard enough to make the relationship work. I believed, at the time, that the relationship was a litmus test to prove if I was worthy of being loved by another“.
Steady synthesizers and blocky production tones build tension as ka lok’s soft vocals provide the song’s melancholic energy.
