Indie Rock Veterans Bombay Bicycle Club Team Up With Holly Humberstone For New Single “Diving”
Bombay Bicycle Club have shared a second single from their upcoming album, set for release this fall. “Diving” is an upbeat track, steadily progressing and building in its instrumentation, and features Holly Humberstone. It’s a typically lilting, inventive and unpredictable number from a band who’ve made a habit of writing inventive and unpredictable pop music.
Vocalist Jack Steadman says that ““Diving” is a song about that summer you have when you’re 15, the memory of which conjures up such a unique feeling. You’re discovering everything for the first time and the world seems as scary and exhilarating as diving off a tall cliff into a lake.”
The song’s accompanying visualizer dials in on the childhood nostalgia of endless days of summer vibes, showing the two main characters at various ages and in various settings, as the lyrics allude to the potential of their future and budding feelings; the result is an adorable combination that fits the duality of the vocals perfectly.
“Holly is the perfect fit for this song. Her music perfectly captures those feelings of early life, and her voice gives the whole song so much emotion,” Steadman says of Humbersone joining the track – a collaboration that actually stemmed from Humberstone asking Steadman to do some writing for her own music. Knowing she was already a fan of the band, they knew exactly who to ask when needing someone to feature on “Diving”.
The band’s sixth album, My Big Day, is set for release on October 20, 2023. It features an eclectic host of guest vocalists including Holly Humberstone, Damon Albarn, Jay Som, and Nilüfer Yanya – plus a fifth special guest releasing a song with the band later this summer.
