Fucked Up – Glass Boys
4/5
Toronto’s Fucked Up continue to take punk to the next level with their latest release Glass Boys.
With a deceivingly delicate album title, Glass Boys is anything but fragile. Opening with a jack-in-the-box tease, “Echo Boomers” suddenly slams into a loud and rowdy punk track that sets the pace for the rest of the album.
Damian Abraham (a.k.a. Father Damian/ Pink Eyes) screams his way through the album, adding an extra level of intensity, alongside the never-slowing-down drumming of Johna Falco (a.k.a. Guinea Beat/ Mr. Jo).
Comparable to the likes of the Flatliners, Cancer Bats and Alexisonfire (sans Dallas Green), the album combines grungy-punk vocals and up-beat alternative guitar riffs and melodies (“Warm Change” is an example, or “Paper the House“, which features an awesome dance drum intro).
Be prepared to channel your inner punk-rocker, and don’t be surprised if you feel the urge to trash your bedroom – after listening to the album, it’ll be worth it.
