Bleachers – Strange Desire
4.5/5
Jack Antonoff is most well known for contribution to New York’s pop rock band Fun!, and now he is branching out on his own with the indie pop act Bleachers. His new album Strange Desire was created while on tour with Fun!, but kept it a secret until February 2014, when he released his alter-ego into the music universe with the first single “I Wanna Get Better“, which is full of bouncing, melodic beats and an addictive chorus line, layered together nicely with synth-pop flavours (the music video is a hot mess as well – I’m 92% sure Ke$ha is the owner of the “abortion dog”).
Antonoff continues to hit all the right places with the catchy tune “Rollercoaster“ that seems to hold together with similarities to White Lies, hellogoodbye, and M83.
Farther down the tracklist, “Shadow“ blends together contemporary dance pop and underlining taste of 80s synth-pop for an easy-breezy track, and “Like a River Runs“ is another uplifting tune.
The album is a refreshing breath of individual excellence from Antonoff, with almost each song sounding as if he is confidently turning his life around. Regardless of if he is or not, the music gets better with each listen and is a leader in the indie pop scene.
