Charles Bradley – Change For the World
(If you like: Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, Kool & the Gang)
Soul legend and Daptone Records all-star Charles Bradley is returning yet again with his third album Changes out April 1st.
At 67-years young, Bradley has released his latest single “Change For the World”, cautioning a need for change in the world:
“This world is in turmoil – guns, violence – people are feeling like they have no way out. Young people don’t know which way to turn. This song is about opening up our minds to understand – talk with the young people, hear what they have to say. We’ve got to change for the better of our souls. We’ve got to change our love. Get back to the golden rule and people’s sense of humanity.”
Embracing the gritty rock n’ roll of the ’60s and ’70s mixed with the soulful offerings of his former years, influenced by the likes of James Brown and Curtis Mayfield. “Change For the World” sounds as if Bradley is using his persuasive vocals from atop a soap box, passionately asking for help: “Hate is poison in the blood / Heaven is crying, the world is shaking”.
