Gone Is Gone – Violescent (Official Music Video)
(If you like: Mastodon, Royal Blood, Death From Above 1979)
Gone is Gone is the newly formed supergroup with singer-bassist Troy Sanders of Mastodon, drummer Tony Hajjar from At the Drive-In, guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen from Queens of the Stone Age and guitarist-keyboardist Mike Zarin. Based out of Los Angeles, the hard rock four-piece announced recently they will be releasing a self-titled EP this summer on July 8th.
Gone is Gone was conceived during Zarin and Hajjar’s collaborations for film and video games scores (including Splinter Cell: Blacklist according to Rolling Stone). They brought together Sanders and Van Leeuwen and now have shared their lead single “Violescent”.
Vocalist Troy Sanders explains the meaning of the word:
“Calming the inner beast and creating separation between yourself and the caged animal, hungry with destructive intent. Bridging negative experiences of the past into a new and colorful light, becoming your ‘violescent self’. Desiring to better your personal environment and those who surround you, you must first better yourself”.
Showing rock is anything but dead, “Violescent” opens with a face-melting punch and powerhouse percussion, before cruising into a heavy, riff-driven verse and chorus. Sander’s growling vocals are a perfect match for the song’s abrasive and melodic instrumentation.
