Two Door Cinema Club – Are We Ready? (Wreck)
(If you like: Tokyo Police Club, Friendly Fires, Bombay Bicycle Club)
Indie pop band Two Door Cinema Club took some time off over the past three years due to some health complications with lead singer Alex Trimble. Their last release came in the shape of 2013’s Changing of the Seasons EP, but have recently announced a full-length album will be released October 14th. Gameshow will be the band’s third full-length, and to help ease the wait, Two Door Cinema Club have shared their latest single “Are We Ready (Wreck)”.
With their signature, slick, dance floor groove, and vibrant indie pop energy, “Are We Ready” is a familiar taste that many fans of TDCC will be pleased to hear. Amongst the charisma and positivity of the music, the song’s meaning carries a bit of baggage. Trimble explains:
“While I was writing this song I discovered this term weltschmertz, the German word for being at odds with the world around you. The fact that it was a fully coined term and related to so many people that have existed and do exist made me feel it was okay to not exist on the same level as everyone else, it was okay to be comfortable doing your own thing. ‘Are We Ready? (Wreck)’ was me… not attacking the world around me but outlining why I don’t really get it and why I don’t fit in with it.”
One thing is for sure: the anticipation for Gameshow is already building, and “Are We Ready” is a sign in the right direction.
