DJ Lag ft Unticipated Soundz – Amanikiniki
South African music doesn’t always find its way into North American culture (aside from Die Antwoord, of course). But Diplo’s label Mad Decent does a wonderful job at highlighting international artists who are always up for sharing their party-moving music. Included in the label’s roster is DJ Lag, a native of Durban, South Africa and a friend of electronic collective Unticipated Soundz.
From DJ Lag‘s 2019 Uhuru EP comes “Amanikiniki”, an earworm of a track that celebrates the genre of Gqom, a variation of house music found in the clubs of South Africa and pioneered by Lag. The infectious and heavy bass lines mixed with the trance-inducing repetitive of “Amanikiniki” makes the dancehall track one that will have you moving.
