The Districts – Cheap Regrets (Music Video)

Following the release of their 2017 album Popular Manipulations, Philadelphia alt-rock group The Districts ended up touring and playing over 200 shows in less than two years. This whirlwind lifestyle, mixed with new developments back home, lead frontman Rob Grote and his longtime bandmates Pat Cassidy (guitar), Connor Jacobus (bass), and Braden Lawrence (drums) to re-evaluate their place in music.

The result is their upcoming album You Know I’m Not Going Anywhere, out March 13th. Grote took up the challenge of reinventing the band’s sound, and letting experimentation and the will to create take over the process – something respectable and necessary for a band that’s been together since high school.

The new LP features Grote credited for over 12 different instruments, and a different energy than what fans are used to from their previous three releases.

The Districts have shared a second look into the forthcoming album with the new single and video for “Cheap Regrets”. Grote explains:

Cheap Regrets’ is some late capitalist nihilism channeled into a Districts dance party. It’s about the extremes of American culture constantly reinforcing the self. The mirror reconfirms you. It’s all iPhone, selfies, and mirrors. Sell yourself baby. The consumer gets consumed. I wanted people to dance together to a song about alienation to find some collective transcendence in that.”

“Cheap Regrets” combines the band’s contemporary energy with a ’70s proto-punk/post-punk sound as Grote takes out his frustration in the lyrics.
