STORRY – Money Ain’t Free (Music Video)

Toronto artist STORRY was nominated for Reggae Recording of the Year at this year’s 2020 JUNO awards for her single “Another Man”. However, the young singer-songwriter’s music spans a wider range of music, including Motown, soul, and hip-hop.

Her latest single “Money Ain’t Free” falls under the latter, with her vibrant and dynamic vocals soaring over a sugar-coated R&B melody. As a classically trained musician and her roots stemming from the world of opera, STORRY has a polished and powerful vocal range that any music lover can enjoy.

“Money Ain’t Free”, which will be off her upcoming album CH III: The Come Up out February 20th, is a hard-hitting reflection about her transition from working as a stripper to finance her art, to being a part of the music industry – both being strongly misogynistic and problematic.

She explains, “I needed to strip to make money to pay for the music so that I wouldn’t have to strip anymore. I remember people saying I just wanted the easy money. But let me tell you, there was nothing easy about being an exotic dancer, going back to an industry that had caused me a lot of trauma. My entire life, to this day, I wear mostly hand me down, second-hand clothes, I don’t buy name brand items, nor do I go to fancy hotels or drive a fancy car. I’m practical and thrifty. Anyone who knows me knows that. But money isn’t free, and I have this dream career that I’m pursuing.”

Directed and co-produced by Karimah Zakia Issa, the accompanying music video explores STORRY’s previous lifestyle of alter identities and struggling to make ends meet.
