Busty and the Bass – Baggy Eyed Dopeman ft. George Clinton

Eight piece jazz/funk collective Busty and the Bass have an interesting history. Originally meeting through the jazz program at McGill back in 2011, the young group caught the attention of college kids and party-goers with their infectious live shows and unstoppable energy, playing their way through any show they could get their hands on.

Fast forward almost a decade later, and the octet have officially signed to Arts & Crafts, and will be taking off on a North American tour starting this March. Since their 2017 full-length Common Good, B&B have slowly been adding to their discography, including their latest single “Baggy Eyed Dopeman”.

Featuring vocals from funk legend George Clinton, the new single is a seamless blend of old school funk and soul with the new school of the young party band. Elements of vintage Outkast, and Parliament make a heavy appearance on the new single.

The Montreal outfit worked with producer Neal Pogue (Tyler, the Creator, DRAM, Outkast) and the influence shows. Featuring layered funk vocals and a familiar bounce to the Outkast track “Roses”, Busty and the Bass give it their own flare with “Baggy Eyed Dopeman” that combines elements of R&B and hip-hop to round it out.

Sax, trombone, keys, guitar, bass, and plenty of vocals to go around give shape to the single and make it pop with tried-and-true B&B colours.
