Dizzy – Sunflower
Growing up in the small town of Oshawa, indie alt-rock group Dizzy put their frustrations and anxieties of the suburban coming-of-age life in their 2018 full-length debut Baby Teeth, which took home the JUNO for Alternative Album of the Year in 2019.
Now, the band composed of brothers Charlie (drums), Alex (guitar), and Mackenzie (bass) Spencer, and lead by front woman Katie Munshaw, have shared their latest single “Sunflower”. Combining ethereal dream-pop aesthetics with the energy of alternative rock, Dizzy build on that foundation, adding in retro 80’s/90’s alt-rock influences from the Cranberries and Alanis Morissette, as they deal with insecurities and trying understanding oneself.
Munshaw explains, “‘Sunflower’ is a three and a half minute ‘snap out of it!’ to myself when I’m feeling low, unconfident or not myself.” The song’s glossy, summery vibe makes for an encouraging anthem.
The new lyric video plays on the band’s name, creating a dizzying and surreal sensation as various hazy shots move around. Enjoy “Sunflower” below, and the band will be embarking on a few European dates this spring in support of Oh Wonder (dates below).
