Stealing Signs – The Coast (Music Video)
We’ve all been there. A controversial topic arises at a family dinner or lunch with friends, and someone just doesn’t get it. Especially since couples, families, and roommates are cooped up at home during the ongoing pandemic, tension can arise.
Essex-based indie outfit Stealing Signs (aptly named after the band’s petty crime habits) took the face-palming frustration of not getting your point through to someone and turned it into a brimming, joyous pop tune called “The Coast”.
Lead singer Nick Acton shares:
“‘The Coast’ is about that situation we all find ourselves in from time-to-time – fundamentally disagreeing with someone who you have to spend time with, be it a family member, a friend of a friend, a co-worker. It muses on the things that you’d really like to say to that person, knowing that you can’t and never will…Wrapping the bitter lyrics in an upbeat indie-pop tune felt like a contradictory and more interesting thing to do.”
Keeping things simple, Stealing Signs shave off all the glitter and fancy production qualities of pop, and focus on the essentials: personality, DIY energy, and a captivating chorus that encourages another listen, and then another, and then another…
Matching the band’s fun-loving demeanour, the music video for “The Coast” features the band in front of (suspiciously) beautiful beach landscapes in a DIY-karaoke style.
