Charlie Burg Gets Soulful On New Single “Lancaster Nights”

While music has always been a part of his life since he was a small child, Charlie Burg only set out to make a career out of it in college. He began writing songs while studying jazz and music business, and following his graduation, he eventually landed in Brooklyn where he has been making music ever since.

The 23 year old has released three EPs to date, and now has shared his latest single “Lancaster Nights”. Mixing together soul, jazz, indie rock, and a dash of pop into his music, Burg also enjoys telling a story in his songs, this time about a dreamy-eyed romance.

“I want people to know that every and any story can be interesting if you find the narrative in it,” Burg explains regarding songwriting. “Some songwriters might lack confidence in their own story, but the fact is that their lives are the stories that no one else owns. When people hear my music, I want them to be able to look inside themselves and realize there’s life, art, and beauty in everything.”

Burg’s own experience with music comes out in the soulful and jazzy details in his music, bringing out the influences of his childhood and surroundings. “I started accepting the soul part of my influence when I realized that I wasn’t alone in loving it while I was in college,” he explains. “That’s when I started incorporating it more into my songwriting.”

It certainly helps to build his story; a beautiful woman catches his attention as a saxophone melody sweeps him away across a groovy bass line. On top of it all, Burg’s sultry vocals have a depth of their own, with rich, crisp soul like a blend of John Mayer and Pharrell.
