Deerhoof – “Farewell” Symphony (Music Video)

With their new album coming out on May 29th, experimental rock band Deerhoof have shared their third single from Future Teenage Cave Artists. Named after Haydn’s “”Farewell” Symphony”, the new single is a glitchy, chaotic ‘fuck you’ to capitalism.

The band explains: “Just imagine if all the living things that’ve been done in by capitalism could reunite for one big final bow! All the extinct cool underground music scenes, all the extinct species of plants and animals, all the extinct arts and educational and political systems that were meant to help people…they’d all be there!”

Frantic guitar riffs, staggered percussion, and dizzying vocals give “Farewell” its fervour and tenacity. Combined with the supercut music video of six performances of Haydn’s finale, the song’s protesting spirit comes at the listener full force. It’s fiery climax takes a messy, prog-rock turn as the members of the various orchestras file out one at a time.
