Stolen Jars – Space By Your Side (Music Video)
Since shifting from the Montclair, New Jersey bedroom of Cody Fitzgerald to the Brooklyn indie music scene, Stolen Jars have gone on to release three full-length albums. Their latest, A Reminder, came out back in October 2019, but their latest single from the release “Space By Your Side” feels more prevalent in April 2020.
Written about understanding the past and the effects of others across our lives, “Space By Your Side” has been given a new meaning in today’s climate. Fitzgerald shares: “In the time of the coronavirus and social distancing, this song feels even more relevant to me. The world has become smaller, confined to our homes, but it also feels massive, like we are all alone together”.
With sonic details similar to the likes of The Dirty Projectors and Son Lux, and with glimpses of Radiohead, “Space By Your Side” is an intricate expression of solitude by ways of melodic percussion, cyclic guitar riffs, and the surreal harmony between Fitzgerald and co-vocalist Sarah Coffey.
The accompanying music video for the track helps bring the sense of connective-loneliness through striking visuals directed by Haoyan of America. Through powerful angles and stunning colours, Coffey and Fitzgerald traverse various forms of isolation, from confined spaces to spacious landscapes.
